Once installed in their accommodation, happy campers were eager to set off to our first birdwatching site at the Scouts SA campsite at Roonka.
A short distance out of town, eagle eyes spotted White-winged Fairy-wren in the low bush alongside the road.
At Roonka, a very large waterhole by the river provided vivid reflections, some water birds and a breeding ground for myriad mosquitoes. We split into smaller groups and wandered the property at large, gathering later at the campfire site on the bank of the waterhole.
On the way out of the property, this little guy on a fencepost caused a deal of speculation, but turned out to be a young Richard's Pipit.
